Your sub-headline states “$340,098 from California Apartment Association.” The use of the word “from” implies that Yebri received that funding from the California Apartment Association. He did not. Your “small print” does correctly state that they are spending funds in support of Yebri. Nonetheless, the headline and piece as a whole is clearly intended to imply Yebri received $340,098 “from” the CAA. He did not.
Further, as you well know, candidates do not control expenditures on independent expenditure(IE) committees or on the content of their message. In fact, they are prohibited from doing so.
While your statement that the CAA has spent hundreds of thousands supporting Yebri and opposing Katy is true, your piece contains columns for “What Yebri Claims” v. “What Yebri Does”. Yebri did not “do” anything with regard to the CAA IE which your response seems to confirm. Your attribution of CAA’s actions to “What Yebri Does” is false and misleading.
